Corchorus olitorious is an annual much branched herb belonging to the family Malvaceae. It grows in grass land and fallow or abandoned fields.
 
The Jute leaf which is commonly known as ‘Ewedu’ (among Yorubas in Nigeria) has been scientifically proven to be very nutritious to man and animal. 
Ewedu has been part of the south westerner’s diet for so many decades and it is popularly eaten among the West Africans. 
 
In Nigerian cuisine, especially amongst the Yorubas, it is commonly used in a stew known as ewedu, a condiment to other starch-based foods such as amala or added with gbegiri a local nigeria soup. 

In Northern Nigeria it is known as Ayoyo. They use it to cook a sauce called (Miyan Ayoyo) which is commonly served with Tuwon Masara or Tuwon Allebo.
Most do not really love to eat Okra soup maybe because of its spiritual effects but I can tell you that the Jute leaf is the best substitute for the okro soup.

Boil fresh leaves without crush like when you want to cook it for consumption 
Just boil for 10 minutes and drink a half cup early mornings

Jute is often used as anti-inflammatory treatment, as it is believed that it cures chronic inflammation of the urinary bladder.

With the presence of beta-carotene in them, they help improve the human Eyesight. 
Squeeze the fresh leaves in clean water 
Pour the juice into a bowl and open your eyes into it for a minute or two 6 times daily 
Prepare fresh one next day

Ewedu leaves contain a high amount of calcium which contributes to stronger teeth and bones.
If you calcium deficiency issue, prepare it with snail and enjoy the calcium benefits

You can spread seed powder directly on wound
Mix the seed with honey or Palm kernel oil for Stomach ulcer 
Two tablespoon twice a day should be enough
